There is an iud without hormones called paragard. I thought you were talking about Mirena iud which has hormones. As for the paragard, it's hit or miss. The reason why I personally opted for Mirena instead of paragard is because a 99% success rate while paragard only has about 90%. Also, mirena stops heavy menstrual bleeding, while paragard causes heavy bleeding and worse cramps. I've heard of women being on a birth control pill and having paragard but they complain constantly about their side effects all the time.
You're way better off using a combination of your pill with condoms, and add FAM (Fertility Awareness Method), which is now more easy than ever since there are so many different apps you can use on your phone to track your cycles.
Thanks guys I will speak to my Dr, I was under the impression that the iud doesnt have hormones thats why I thought it would be ok for extra precautions along with my dianne 35Ed which assists with my PCOS
I already replied in your other post where you asked about getting depo while on diane35. The same answer applies here. You will not find a competent doctor who will prescribe more than one hormonal birth control at a time because, as I already told you, the risk of serious side effects is increased and the doctor doesn't want you to have an adverse effect and have you sue them for prescribing it.
Just use condoms with your pill and you'll be fine!
Talk to your doctor. You'd want something other than the Mirena IUD as it has hormones. The pill is just as effective as a condom if used properly. If you have problems with forgetting, I'd recommend a cell phone alarm and keeping the pill with you so you can take it without fail at the same time daily. But if you are interested in an IUD, talk to your gynecologist about it.
