Irregular period on pill for 5+ years?

I'be been on the pill for about 5 years now and my periods were always regular.. recently I started university and noticed my periods have been really out of place..my doctor said it could be stress but I don't feel I am stressed in any way. from usually have my periods right on time to spotting and maybe no blood at all, that's what stresses me out.. I'm not pregnant and haven't been sexually active to have become pregnant.. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what's going on..
