I hope my physician will say the same today. Since the only ADH found was in the first stereotactic biopsy, my first inclination is to only do close monitoring. I know that radiation to the left breast carries the possibility of damage to the heart or lungs. At my age, and as a former runner, that seems like too big a risk for such a small amount of ADH. I will probably seek out another breast center for another opinion on the treatment recommendations after my appointment today. Quality of life dictates extreme care in the choice of treatment. Thanks for your comments!
Thank you for your reply. After reading all the responses, I have a better feel for what the norm is in treatment recommendations. I think the thing that stands out most for me is the amount of uncertainty surrounding these decisions. I wil be asking a lot of specific, personally targeted questions when I meet with my physician today. Thanks again!
Hi I also had ADH had the lumpectomy got the report back 2 days later and the dr said all of the adh was removed got clear margins and no sign of cancer was ever found. She also told me there was no need for any radiation or tamoxifen.I know every situation is different but I would have to ask why the need for further treatment Best of luck
The standard treatment for ADH after surgical removal is Radiation and possibly also Hormone Therapy such as Tamoxifen or one of the other drugs with similar action. You need to discuss this with your Oncologist to determine the pros and cons as they apply to your specific condition. It is however the norm as treatment for ADH. Regards ....
