I've had three in the past five years and the recovery was very quick and relatively
easy. It depends on how large an area is removed, I think, and of course, your own
response to pain and ability to heal. After my first, I went dancing the next evening, and that one involved two small incisions! The second was nearly as easy and the
last was the most uncomfortable. That was because it was the largest amount of tissue removed, and maybe because I'm five years older now! I was sore for about a week and it hurt to sleep on that side, but nothing that I would call real "pain" after the first two days. Try not to worry too much, but if you have questions, please be sure to ask your doctor and the nurses who will care for you. That's what they're there for and
most are very caring and concerned for your well-being. I wish you the best possible experience with a not-so-good situation and benign results!
As far as the biopsy is concerned .... a very fine wire is inserted by mammographic guidance to pinpoint the exact spot to be biopsied. The wire is inserted thru a needle and taped in place; you are then taken to Surgery for an excisional biopsy. The results will be evident after the Pathology studies are done on the specimen that is removed. There of course would be some discomfort at the site of the incision which I would imagine would be less than 3 inches in length. I'm sure you will be given post-op instructions when you are ready to go home and will be prescribed some mild pain medication. Regards .....
