The placement of the titanium chip is a common procedure. It is used to mark the suspicious area for biopsy and is left in place for future reference. They are indeed safe and do not set off metal detectors and you can have exams such as MRI with no problem as with metal. Having one removed would defeat the purpose of the placement. Relax, they are routine. Regards ...
I have read in The Breast Book about the markers. They are important in case they need to relocate the area they tested. without then the doctors may not be able to pinpoint a problem area. So they are good, in my opinion. I just had back surgery in January and had titanium rods and screws inserted! Lots of metal! So far what I have learned is that they are very safe, and do not even set off metal detectors. It is such a hard metal, it wont leach anything bad, at least that is what I think now. I will let you know if I learn anything else. In the mean time I would be glad. My mom had a small lesion in the 1980's and when the surgeons went back in to remove, they took out the wrong area. This was discovered a year later in a follow-up mamogram. I bet it was mistakes like this that led to the markers. God Bless , I will think good thoughts for you! (please do the same for me as I wait for my own biopsy next week) Lisan
