hi Paul

Are you a doctor?
I just read your response to the lady that had architectural distortion and your re-confirmation to her that the chances are small that it is cancer.  Most articles on that disease all say it is a sign of cancer and the articles don't help you relax at all.
I appreciate your comment, as I have just been diagnosed with distortion as well in my left breast.  My dr. said years ago, now 44, that I had fibrous breasts and that I should do mammograms earlier that most women; so I have been since 30. No history of cancer in the family either.   The mammogram did not say I had a lump as well, but my dr. said he could feel one when I saw him after the mammogram.  Just waiting for the diagnostic mammogram results now.  Hoping this comes back with it being nothing as I have been worried for a while now.

Hi there.

Architectural distortion is indeed a vague and non-specific finding and in no way is this tantamount to cancer.  This finding just means that there is something abnormal in the beast that is giving the area a distorted shape.  These lesions are still most commonly of the benign nature such as fibrocystic disease, benign breast cysts, fibroadenoma or infected nodes.  The risk of this being cancer is still there albeit small, and the additional test such as the MRI can indeed help in further narrowing down the possibilities.

If the MRI is still equivocal, then you may need to have a biopsy procedure.

Regards.
