mastectomy scars treatments

azh
I had a bilateral mastectomy 3 weeks ago and have just removed the last of the bandages. The scars are healed, but the skin beneath them is lumpy and uneven. I'm intending to massage them with a scar treatment gel, but I wondered if anyone had any good suggestions for evening out the appearance of the skin and toning up the pectoral muscles.

thanks,

Alex

Japdip, I'm not expecting perfect scars, I understand and expected that they would *not* be perfect.

I just want to know how best to help them heal - the left side particularly looks like I got mauled by an angry pitbull, and I'd like to do whatever might help it be the best it can be.

my doctor was very vague - "rub some bio-oil on them" was all he suggested, but unfortunately bio-oil contains soy, which I'm allergic to.

cheers,
Alex

I think you are jumping the gun expecting a perfect scar being only 3 wk.s post-op. Time will make quite a difference; my scar is barely visible. I would suggest you wait at least 6 mo,. to a year before getting upset about the appearance of the scars. Regards ....
