I had a robotic prostatetomy 15 days ago and i have gone through many levels of pains, from excrutiating to a stinging pain in the penis. I have to say that it is getting better little by little. The first week is the worst and the begining of the second but, it varies from person to person. When my bladder decided to "wake up" from all the anesthesia and all, i felt like i was stabbed in the lower abdomen and then the urine started being red or pinkish. Called my doctor and told me is was good news that my bladder just started pumping out everything including the foreign object in there, "the catherer". I just want to let all men out there in these circumstances to just have patience and trust God. He can give you the peace you need to go through all of this. Remember stress is the cause of a longer recovery, don't let it. Me, I'm trying my best. it is not easy but, we have no other choice. God Bless you all.

Hi, I had open prostate removal 6 days ago, before I left the hospital (2 days after surgery) everything seemed fine...clear urine through the catheter, and no swelling in the genitals. Now I'm at home and ever since I arrived home..the next moring, I saw with shock that my penis and scrotum are really badly swollen, and now I have blood in my urine, to the colour of rose' wine. very dark pink. Also when I try laying down, I get severe burning or stinging, in my eurethra close to the end of my penis. The penis is bruised so severely to the point of being a dark purple/blue. This is causing me a lot of concern, and has me thinking "I hope my penis doesnt develop into a bad case of gangarene." So I'm hoping there are a few guys here that had the same experience as me, and can give me reassurance, all will be fine.

Hi,

It is normal to experience some pain in the scrotal area after radical prostatectomy due to swelling. Doctor’s generally prescribe a pain medication before discharge.
I would suggest to you to do not wait for the pain to become severe, and check with your doctor about the pain  medication that you can take.
