Pip:
I'm glad she's doing so much better! You're a good "daddy!"
Hugs,
Janet
We did leave out 2 weeks worth of food and water (based on their feeding habits); 2 scratch boxes for Teia and 5 for the other three.
We always do a pre-walk to leave the house in as safe a condition as possible, and a walk once we get home (before unloading our baggage) to see if any improvement needs to be made to that procedure.
The cats have never shown any separation anxiety upon our return, although Chesapeake did come and take a look at me when I stepped in the house, and then spent 1/2 hour hiding under the couch, until I popped a can open for their supper. She came to bed with me like usual.
Teia was out and about right away, much quicker than the three we've had all their lives...this was the lap time of which Anita took pictures.
The "drive-by" friend does look in, but says the kitties will peek at him and then hide. If we're in the house, they'll greet him just fine. He basically just does a security walk through...
She is beautiful!
You might want a neighbor to check in every other day next time you leave, though, and make sure she's got plenty of food and water and clean the cat box.and just spend a little time petting and playing with her as cats can get stressed being left all alone for long periods of time.
That's what I did when we left for a couple of weeks. I had my neighbor come in every other day. It sure eased my mind too so I could have a more pleasant vacation. :)
I just saw the pictures, Pip. What a beautiful kitty she is. And how adorable you both look. I think your cats are blessed to share their lives with yours.
Great Pics!!
Anita and I have been blessed (one could say) over the years...
Kessie, Hildie and Chessie have been left alone thus in the past. This was the 1st time for Teia (that we know).
Our inspection of the house is quite thorough before we go off on people business. I think we cut electrical usage by 90% - 95% as things are turned off prior to departure.
We do understand that past performance may not be an indication fo future results...which is why friends drive by every day or so.
I hope (cross-fingers) this continues to work well.
That is way too long to leave your kitty home alone! One time while we were living in Ak I left our 4 cats in the house while I ran some errands and a few hrs later when I returned home, our house was in flames. Fortunately, they had all made their way to the MBR bathroom (fartherest room from the fire) and when the firemen brought them out, they were scared and were covered in soot, but they were ok. Besides, I bet your cat got awfully lonesome being in there for 8 days.
Teia is beautiful! She reminds me of my childhood pet kitty. I adopted a feral kitty who is now 11 years old, and I remember how long it took for her to finally trust me and get adjusted. She still runs from strangers, but then lots of kitties do, too,
Glad to hear Teia is adapting. She is a lucky kitty.
