Cats & Toilet Paper

All right, a contest;

If anyone can come up with a way to explain to a kitten that unravelling a roll of toilet paper is NOT the highlight of their day let alone mine, I think we can come up with some sort of prize.

Because that is the THIRD ROLL of toilet paper that this little monster has gone through.

I preferred it when he just fell in the bloody toilet every few days.

Put the roll on the other way and then when he plays with it, he is actually rolling it up!!  Works for my cats.

Yes, q-tips are fun. An actual really fun toy for a cat (at least, ours).

An old emery board. They'll chew on 'em, carry 'em, all sorts of fun for them. Make sure there's not to much "grit stuff" on it, though.

I'm going to hold out a few more weeks and see what happens. They're still small enough and not active enough to attract to much attention, so hopefully things will work out for them (There's actually two of them. We ended up with a second that a neighbor left behind when they were evicted).

q tips. venus loves q tips. clean or dirty if she can get it she will carry the stupid thing around everywhere. i've found q tips in some of the oddest places (like under my sheets). she's woken me up with a q tip before (thank god it was a clean one....which yes she can open the cupboards but they're the sliding kind so...yeah) it was odd. she kept poking me in the face with it. like "hey hey hey wake up!!! wake up wake up..." but no tp or pt incidents. she's not very fascinated with them.

I used to shut the bathroom door so they wouldn't get in the bathroom but my cats have never attacked a roll of toilet paper so I don't have to shut the door anymore.  I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

They do, however, love to play with the empty tp roll.  I just chuck it in the hallway when the tp is gone and they have fun for hours!

I know what you mean, Savas. I went through something similar last year, when I tried to rescue a stray. He is now in kitty heaven. They put him to sleep at the shelter as he came down with the kennel flu and they could not afford to treat that. I asked around multiple times, see who was willing to take him in, and no one was available. I had to take him to the county shelter because the landlord was going to kick him out. I could not keep him. That memory stayed with me, and so I recently went to the same shelter and rescued a kitten, my Dillan, who is the most adorable creature ever!

You have an issue, buddy. But, keep looking and do not give up. There HAS to be someone out there willing to take him in. I know the clock is ticking. Hang in there!

This is the one we picked up in a puddle at 4 weeks old in a rainstorm.

He was a screamer about everything at first, and it's a miracle none of us here killed him the first two weeks (the other cats were VERY put out, violently so at times). We were averaging maybe an hour's sleep when he'd start in screaming about something. If he went two hours without having a meowing fit/ screaming, we'd consider it a miracle.

Not surprising he acted this way, at four weeks old to lose your mother in a "natural disaster" and nearly drown in a puddle. He was very neurotic.

Now he's a sweet pain in the *ss. :-)

We've been trying to find a group to take it off our hands, as we can't keep it around much longer. I've had contact with one or two, but they keep making promises and putting off taking him (It's been about four months now).

Hopefully one will come through as our landlord will have a fit if he discovers he's still here. They've been cracking down on the law in this area when it comes to number of pets per household and dealing with strays. I've already been issued a warning as well as the landlord (threat of $1,000 fine for me).

He's a great guy (the landlord) and he's willing to help us cover to SOME degree because I've made myself helpful to him, but if he thinks I'm taking in NEW cats, he'll report me (I can't totally blame him. If "we" get caught he faces a fine in the tens of thousands of dollars).

I once had a male yellow tabby kitten, He was a total character.  When i would leave for work, it would never fail that i would come home to a bathroom filled with toilet paper.  He would shred it right off the roll...so i started keeping the door closed.  The next day i came home to a kitchen filled with shredded paper towels...no door there.  I picked him up and looked at him nose to nose, tryin' not to laugh...and told him "you gotta stop this".  I'm sure he really understood that, as he walked over and shredded up a long strand of carpet!  What i finanly figured out though, was that he didn't like me going off to work and leaving him there alone all day.  He finally grew out of that stage...had to hide the TP and PT tho.

What about the q-tips?  Mine will take them out of the trashcan and spaz out with them.  They are the favorite toy of theirs.  It's especially bad when it's in the middle of the night and you are awake enough to throw them out when they try to get in with you.
