FibroSarcoma in Cat, left face
My cat Garcia has a tumor on the left side of his face. We are waiting for the biop to come back but vet said it's fibrosarcoma and that there are no treatments for him due to the fact that it is next to his eye, nose and mouth. So we are on pain medicine and waiting........... Has anyone had a kitty with a tumor in his/her head before? Trying to prepare for whats to come and don't want to make selfish decisions. I don't want him to hurt. Thanks any advice or stories.
my cat Simba has a tumor that started in the back of his mouth left side. its now grown into his cheek, he sticks his tongue out, and at times the pupil of his eyes aren't the same size. He's been fighting this for 8 months. he was comfortable for the last 7. this last month he's been sickly. he can only eat baby food or tuna fish from the blender with his medicine in it. I'm putting Simba down this week. When I rescued Simba, he was starving and bony. Some inhumane person dropped him out in the woods. I gave him 13 good years of food, love, and medical when needed that he wouldn't of had if I did find him. I promised him if he ever goes backs to how I found him and I couldn't fix it, I'd put him down in peace.

I'm so sorry about your furr baby! I just went through a difficult time and lost my Daisy last Wednesday. I know how difficult this is and my heart hurts for you. Just typing this is bringing those raw emotions back like it just happened today. Of course, we're still grieving.
With our girl, there was nothing they could do for her either since the cancer had spread into her internal organs. So, we chose to let the vet give her a prednisone shot that helped to make her feel more comfortable and it reduced the tumor for about a month longer. We also had pain medication for her and gave her Pro Gut to help keep her tummy comfortable. Did they tell you how long he has left or an estimate? We were told at the most 2 months and she was gone within a month.
Is he comfortable right now? Or, is he sickly?
I was told by many sweet and wonderful people here that I would know when the time was right for Daisy to go to heaven. They were right. I knew.
You asked in another post about experiences in being with them at their passing. For me, I've had to do this 4 times now and each was very difficult and sad. But, for me, they were very peaceful (if that's possible) and I was amazed at how fast they left. The first one for me was my mother's kitten who had the kitty aids virus and he was only 8 months old. The next two were within the same year - sibling males who were 16 and 17 when they passed. And, then my Daisy who was 5. Each time, I was able to pet them and comfort them while the vet administered the injection. Do you have a good vet that you feel comfortable with? I really think you should ask them what to expect.
My vet told us to expect that sometimes the body with move somewhat just like in humans initially. With my mother's kitten (Pepper) and my first boy (Magnum) they did not move at all. With my second boy (Robear) he did move and Daisy did not move right away, but air did escape from her body when she was gone and it caused some reflexes. Thankfully I was warned in both instances and the vet assured me that the stuff they use is the same stuff they use to do surgeries, they just use a lethal dose. So, they will drift away like we do when we have surgery.
For me, I needed the closure and had to be there with them. But, that is not always right for everyone and so whatever you choose to do, it's the right thing. Don't ever second guess yourself on that!
