Good Humor Man....making up for lost time

Good Humor Man is just about well (again).  He has had two serious bouts with pneumonia now in his short little life.  He is almost 5 months old now.  We take him back to the vet on Saturday and hoping he will finally be getting a clean bill of health.  I have put off getting him neutered and vaccinated because his little immune system has been so compromised for the last couple of months and I want to be sure he is completely stable before I do anything that could set off another round of infection.

Now that he is feeling better, I think he is trying to make up for lost play time when he was sick.  He is the last foster kitten I have left and he misses having other kittens around to play with. He is driving my older cats nuts trying to get them to play with him.

Thanks, Nancy :)

Great to hear GHM is doing so well!  Other worries going on with the older ones, though, I see.  Do let us know how Zena is doing after her vet visit.  I would suppose Zylo will go to the vet next.

I think I'll be taking Jade to the vet this week for ear infection.  I'm pretty positive she has one.  I'll ask our vet if she's noticed any increase of URI's, etc, just to see if the increase in disease is happening here too.

Best of luck with Zena, Nancy.  Will look forward to an update when you have a moment.

Welcome back, you were missed :-)

I don't know if this is a regional thing or if it happened elsewhere, but this has been a terrible summer for cats.  Not just my own cats and the ones at the shelters where I volunteer but at other shelters and other peoples cats according to our vet.  They all saw a lot more URI and pneumonia, fleas, ear mites, ring worm, coccidia, and even panleukopenia this season.  Don't know if that is do to an overall increase in the cat population, the weather (although this has been a typical hot and mostly dry summer in Texas) or what.

The regional shelter is under a general quarantine for cats right now trying to get all this stuff cleared up.  All of this stuff has affected the kittens mostly but that does make sense since they have lesser developed immune systems.  One of my older cats (Zena) is sick now.  She is the one that had corona virus as a kitten and reacts badly to any type of vaccines as a result. Will be taking her to the vet tomorrow.  And Zylo, my oldest, has some sort of funky thing going on around and below his ear.  Thought it was ring worm at first but now seems to be some sort of rash or skin infection that is spreading.  And they all had coccidia a couple of weeks ago but got that cleared up pretty quickly with meds.

So it seems to be a ongoing battle, both at home and at the shelter to keep cats well.  Zany, my bengal, is the only one that has escaped coming down with anything this season.  GHM is still doing well and now that he is feeling good, he is quite a pistol, getting into everything.  Hoping he will finally get a clean bill of heath when he sees the vet next weekend so we can get on with getting him vaccinated and neutered.

18 hrs. Wow.

Did you see that post I recently left about that woman dumping that kitty in the bin? Then said she did it for a joke. That kitty was stuck for 15hrs.

Glad your kitty came back home.  Zylo, my oldest cat, is the only one that is an indoor/outdoor cat and a couple of times he has wandered into somebody else's garage that was open and ended up trapped in there when the neighbors closed the garage door not realizing he was in there.  He was gone 18 hours one time.

Good Humor Man is doing good.  Vet is keeping him on antibiotics for another 10 days just to be sure he doesn't relapse again.

More good news. Tucker was adopted today.  Now just one of my fosters is still in limbo and that is Maggie Moo.  A friend of mine is fostering her for now and she said a vet tech at her vet's office might want to adopt her so keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Yes, once he is well for a while and I can get him neutered we will be adopting him.  All but two  (Tucker and Maggie  Moo) of my other foster kittens have already found their forever homes.

Are you keeping this kitten because I know the others went to good homes. ??
I am glad he is better, I hated it when my kitten was basically born with cat flu, and the vet wanted her to fight it off. And she nearly died, I aint using that vet again thats for sure.

He wil get better.. :)
