My kitty has urinary incontinence

Hello~Last week, my kitty, who has never been sick, started to act strange. Her little backside was just caked with feces, so, I gave her a warm, sudsy bath to get it off. Well, needless to say, it was a job, but, she did OK. Well, the next morning there was more on her, but very little in the pan, I took her to the vet, he shaved her and took some tests because she would not eat much or drink much, was very lethargic and just seemed out of sorts. He gave her an IV as she was dehydrated, took some x-rays, found really nothing wrong. So, he sent me home with some meds for the tummy and cat malt in case she had any hidden hair balls. Well, since then, she has developed a case of urinary incontinence. I have noticed that there is absolutely no urine in her pan, and have also noticed that when she falls asleep, she will wet herself, and the entire area she is sleeping in, she does not even know it. This evening, I came into my room to see how she was, and she was lying in a huge puddle and the poor thing was all wet. I took her to the bathroom and proceeded to clean my bath and wash ALL the linen, it was all saturated. I now have her in a large kennel with a blanket, her bowls and pan. I do not know what is wrong, but, I fear that I might have to have the vet put her to sleep tomorrow and I am just sick over it. I do not know why she wets the bed in her sleep. Two mornings ago, I noticed a big puddle on the kitchen floor, right next to her pan. It seems like she has lost all control of her bladder and it just "releases".

Do any of you know what might be wrong? Have any of you had kitties that this happened to. I do not want to put her to sleep, she has been so healthy, is only 6 and a half and so sweet, never hisses and you can do anything to her and she does not even scratch, lately, however, she has gotten more aggressive, and at times, will act like she does not even know me and will run and hide with pure fear in her sweet eyes.

I am scared and need some advise. I have to call the vet tomorrow to let him know how she did over the weekend, and it looks like now, I will have to tell him to put her to sleep, and I do NOT want to.

Hi, I'm sorry your kitty is doing poorly. I'm also sorry it took two days for someone to get back to you on this. Could you let us know what the vet said when you took her in? It sound like you're dealing with UTI blockage; the question is what the cause is. If your vet still tells you "I'm not sure..."   go to another vet. This one may lack the expertise to diagnose effectively.

Hello~I received a call from my vet's receptionist yesterday, and she said she does have a urinary tract infection, she told me the vet wanted her on some antibiotics for two weeks, it is called "amoxicillian" She has been on them for two days now, and is acting much better and the incontinence is gone. She is eating better too and using her pan.

I will be watching her closely while she is on this and if I see she reverts back to the way she was or gets worse, I plan on taking her to another vet out of town, but, so far, so good.

It has been a week now since I started treating Buttercup for her UTI, I am so happy to say that she is on the full road to recovery. She is using her pan all the time, eats great, and is back to her ole sassy self. I am so happy. She is so sweet and it is great fun watching her perform her playful antics. :)

Fabulous!  That's what I like to hear!!  Thanks so much for letting me know.

Give Buttercup a kiss on her nose for me.  And stick around, if you like - we're a pretty good group here, if I do say so myself :)
