Is it just me..

Or do others tear up or cry when reading about other fur-kids' struggles?  I can't comment or even give condolences because I am crying.  I can't even come back at another time because I will cry again.  Even though I know I'm going to do this, I cannot help but read them.

It's pitiful- I have to change the channel or leave the room during the ASPCA commercials-  If I even hear the music I will cry.

Ugh- My co-workers cat or dog will get sick or pass and I am the one more upset (or at least visibly).

Any suggestions to stop this???

It isn't just you.  I think everyone on this forum feels the same way.

AppleBr...oh poor little baby :(

alligator79...I too have always dreamt of working at a shelter, but I know I would be a wreck and hurt more than I helped :(    You not only need compassion, but the strength to keep your emotions in check to do such a thing and unfortunately, I don't possess the strength.

I'm glad I'm not nuts...  I don't want to "stop" it, I just want to be able to volunteer at the shelter or work with cats, but I can't at this point because I become a blubbering idiot...

I've become much more prone to tearing up since having a bout with depression several years ago...but I do not think it either odd or out of place.  I believe I am just more open now about the compassion I've always felt.

take care - Pip

We all do that I guess...
There's no way to avoid doing it if you enjoy pets ...
All of then are equall so we  love all of then just like ours.
At this moment.I mean for 2 or 3 days I had been listening a kitten a little older than Loreena's ones ( saw him once or twice) meowing all the time by the side of my house and that its killing me!
I cant reach it since it runs away and hide completely in the tall vegetation nor even put some feed for the poor, I did, but the ants and the rain arrive early than it discover it was eatble
I surely could not take him home as well.Just pray...
Even Loreena stops to hear it sometimes :(

I have to change the channel for those ASPCA commericals too...omg, I'll end up crying my eyes out...I even get teary eyed for the stupid mop on that swiffer commercial. LOL

My mom always thought I was a weird kid cuz i could witness a person get hurt and not blink...but see an animal get hurt and I'd be a hysterical mess! Still am..

people annoy me...not that i want to see them get hurt, but there will be other people to rush and help the hurt one...with animals...not enough people rush to help.

I just got done catsitting for 17 cats (in one house...she heads a rescue) and I found myself to feel very sad when leaving the house for the last time! Even though I have my own furbabies...who missed me very much...I was still sad to leave all those kitties. LOL.

we are a compassionate group of people...and that's ok.

Oh gosh no, it's not just you.  I cry reading this forum All The Time.  I have to change the channel during that ASPCA commercial the minute I hear Sarah Mclaughlin singing that song...you know, the one where the little white kittens eyes are...god, I don't even know how to describe it, but I can't take it no matter how many times it comes on I never get used to it.

I was reading Ask a Vet yesterday and someone was asking a ? about their kitten.  The vet was very kind and helpful, but when the poster came back she says her kitten had died in the night and I just burst into tears.

Sometimes I have to give the forum a rest because it can get to be too much, but when I'm feeling emotionally strong, I try to be here for everyone I can.

When a friend or neighbors cat passes away, I get them a condolence card.

All the sick kittys right now make me feel very fortunate that my cat is relatively healthy and I will go love on her and appreciate her a little more than usual at times like this.

I don't think you need to stop it. You have a gift of compassion and empathy for others. That is a gift. It shows you have a soft heart. Short of hardening your heart (which I don't think you want to do), there's not much you can do about it. :)
I'm like you, it affects me too. Pets are innocent, like children. They depend on us. Maybe it brings out a maternal sort of thing in us. I don't think it's a bad thing, though. I wish there were more people out there who did care.
