yes as moms we do KNOW when something isn't right and often we are treated like paranoid women or men!
Tacost, that was such a sweet write up, I can't agree more about how we as owners need to have more patience and understanding to help these little guys deal with whatever problems arise.
Most of us on here don't take on the act of mothering lightly even when they unexpectedly find us as did your Frosty.
We are all they have and they count on us for love, care and compassion everyday but most especially when they are hurt or ill, in return they give us unconditional love.........what would we ever do without them?
hugs to you all!!
Thank you so much! I am so happy. You are absulutely correct in saying i was thrilled when i saw him leap at the moth. It was at about 10pm. I was so happy that i was in tears. I sent texts to everyone in my phone. I hope this gives hope to anyone that has this problem in the future. It may take a lot of time but is possible for them to come back 100%. Even if a cat stays blind, it takes time and patience to help him through it and to teach him/her how to live with it, but they will do just fine. Mr. Snowflake is just thrilled to have his brother to play with again. As of today, it seems that Frosty can see normally again. He hides behind corners to sneak attack snowflake. He is once again stealing my q tips and chasing them through out the house. I love that. I missed picking up the q tips. Whenever he sees a string hanging off of anything, he goes after it. I would say that Frosty is completely healed. I think i need to thank God for that. I also have to thank all the people that helped me pray for him! : )
I had sort of the same thing happen to my female cat when she was fixed. When I picked her up the next day at the vets office I noticed something wrong or different with her right eye. I immediately said something to the vet tech and she said that the eye looked fine and to take her home. Still very bothered by the eye I made an appointment with the vet to check the eye out ....charged me $78 to tell me that her eye is fine and that he has no idea what I am seeing that is different. Well as a MOM I do know that there was and still is a difference, she was fixed over 5 yrs ago and her eye still looks different.
thank you so much for letting us know, I have thinking of frosty and how he was making out.
I am so happy to hear the good news that this hasn't proven to be permanent.
This is a wonderfully happy ending and lilke Jade said you need to be congratulated for standing by this little fellow during his traumatizing event.
I am so glad for him and for you both.

Hi there,
Im just thrilled to read this! I remember your situation clearly. What a nightmare! I'm glad you came back and updated so any future owner faced with this problem will have hope. Oh your heart must of jumped for joy when you realized he could see that moth! Wow...what an awesome owner you are. Someone not so patient may have opted to put poor Frosty down. I'm so happy to see a happy ending here!!! :)
Good news! My little Frosty can see again. He started slowly getting his vision back. One night a moth sneaked into the house and Frosty leaped at it. Then the next night he started chasing my shadow. He and snowflake always loved to chase shadows. He did it! so happy. Would like to let everyone know that he is finally able to see again. He is back to his normal self after about 2 months. I hope this information will help anyone that has a similar situation.
Thank you for praying for my little baby. Still no vision as of today but he is getting along very well. He is acting almost as he did before. He does have the balls with the bells in them but does not like them for some reason. He runs away from them. So far the stick with the strings and feathers seams to be his favorits since he lost his sight. He also has a little mouse that makes noise when you shake it. He seemed to take to that also. I love to watch him play! I do miss picking the Q Tips up every day though. He used to know where i kept them and he would get them himself and bat them around. I would find Q Tips from one end of the house to the other. That was adorable. Maybe one day i will be picking them up again. I keep hoping anyway!
I'm praying for your babies either.
The cat of the week at united cat this week was a one-eyed girl from Croatia, with a quite sad story.I loved knowing she could get a decent support and a good home.
Hope Frosty can recover at least part of his vision...
Have you a ball with something sound inside for him? Bells or so? Just one idea
Can be useful for a cat without vision,I guess...
My Snowflake seems to miss playing with Frosty. They used to wrestle around constantly as brothers do. He plays by himself now and it is heart breaking. He chases shadows and stuff which is adorable. We play with him and his toys as much as possible. He does notice when Frosty gets tired. He curls up with him. Frosty will get tired very easily these days and go lay on his blanky, Snowflake goes with him sometimes. The good news, My Frosy played today. We have this particular cat toy that has strings with feathers on the ends. He chased it around this morning. He could hear it being dragged around the kitchen floor. So happy to see him try to play again. He was interested in the kitty toy box too. Took a mouse out. Didn't do much with it but he took it out. So happy for him.....
Have you noticed any difference in behavior of Snowflake in regards to Frosty? I wonder if he will be a little more gentle, stay around him and help Frosty get around and live a lazy kitty life. It may be wishful thinking, but it seems like cats are empathetic enough that they would change thier ways to help his brother.
Thank you for trying to help. I will keep searching. I appreciate any prayers for my baby. He is my Frosty. His brother is Snowflake. My son named them. He wanted the name Frosty and said you cant have a Frosty without Snowflakes. LOL. Our Frosty is still seeing nothing as of today but is getting very good at things. Can jump on the kitchen counter now. I help him get down but he wanted to show me that he can find the edge himself. He still has some tremors and eyes twitch a little. I will keep updating.
Again, thank you for being so caring. :-)
yes poor little baby indeed, how cruel some people can be....you have a good heart to have taken these 2 in and nursed them both back to health and given them a good loving home....esp this smallest one who had such a set back to start with. IMO with his weakened immune system he reacted to the anesthesia with this unfortunate result.
I wasn't able to obtain much info for you other than Telazol is an acceptable drug and no one has known of this side effect before....and therefor cannot give you any answers to the question if this condition is permanent.
Do you have access to a specialist in ophthalmology in you're area?
I do hope his eye sight will return, how very unfortunate such a cruel start to life and now this...
Has there been any improvement since you're original post?
Please keep us informed and continue to post on the forum.
I wish you and the little guy my prayers. I too feel so bad for him. OH what is his name?..you said the brother is Frosty, so tell us this little ones name too please.
Looks like Telazol (Benzodiazepine) was used. 0.25 ml. His brother got 0.3 ml. He is a little bigger than Frosty.
I don't know the name or the dose. I can call to find out though. I will try to contact the vet today.
another question, I am trying to get some info for you, but first I need an answer from you.
do you know what anesthesia he was given? and what dose?
could you find out if you don't know?
find out if he was given Baytril specifically.
Thank you for the comment. His vet said she does not know if his vision will come back. Said only time will tell. I looked all over the internet to see if i can find a similar story with hopes that the end says the cat is able to see again but so far no luck. I figured the next best thing would be to post the story and hope someone that has had something like this happen see and respond. I will try ASK A VET. Maybe can get an answer there. He seems to be getting better and better with finding his way around but can't stand the thoughts of it. He may never play with q tips again or look out the window at the birds as he always loved to do. I am very thankful to still have him and will work with him forever if need be. Doctor said it is very rare but some cats do have an alergic reaction to the anasthesia. I believe this can be true as he has always been very sensitive to things. Was pretty sick when i found them. It was december. They were only a few months old in the cold and snow. He had a few months where he was on meds, perscription food, ect. He finally got better, now this. My poor little baby! Thank you for your help and concern. Damn the b****** that left them to fend for themselves. I am lucky to have the pleasure of raising them.
ohm thats terrible!!! you have done such a wonderful thing in caring for these poor babies and now this one gets another slap in the face...I sure hope this is temporary!
I can't give you any answers I'm sorry. what did you're Vet tell you? what caused this?
Is it over sedation or won't he say?
I am so sorry for this poor little tike. I can ask some questions on a holistic forum I belong too and see if anyone else has had this happen, if I find any answers I will post to you, ok.
You can also use our ASK A VET forum, will cost you $10 but perhaps they can be of alot more assistance to you.
all the best of luck
