Low tone wheezing cat

My cat started weezing, its quit a low sound, almost like a cow mooing (but higher pitch than a cow obviously), when he turned 2, during winter, after 6 months during summer it stopped, it started again the next winter, and several years later it continues year round. - He's now a 6 or 7y/o
His snoring which sounds more like a mild weeze, is a lot quieter than his weezing/mooing when awake, and he uses it to get in and out of the house, has learnt its more effective than scratching, he just moo's at the door until someone opens it. Its highly annoying when outside someone's window.
He is a fat cat, but not restricted in any way, still active, can jump up walls on to roof's etc,
When it first occurred - I took him to the vet who checked him out, and told me 'he's like a fat old man' and I said 'but he's only two!' - end of consultation.
Now I don't know what to do, he's noisey all the time, the volume is loud, I can hear him from next door, I can see the white patch on his front/neck/throat go in and out significantly when he breathes - he's a mostly black mog.

Any idea's appreciated.

Thank you, I've done a wiki on Feline asthma and It looks like you might be right, I'll take him to the vet again and get them to check for that specifically.
Kind Regards

I agree w/ CML and Opus that it might be asthma.  You also might want to get xrays to rule out possible heart issues and to get  a clearer view of the lungs.

I would bring him to the vet asap, if this were my cat.

Best of luck!!

Hi Styles,

I think our "Yoda" cat  , Opus, is right. My cat, Meezy, has asthma, and she wheezes . If you Kit coughs like he wants to throw up a hairball (but sticks his neck straight out), and the coughs do not produce anything, it is a pretty good bet it is asthma. This is serious! they cannot breath. I have to give Meezy  Flovent in an inhaler once a day to prevent these spells

Check it out to be sure.

Good luck and keep us posted
CML.

Hi and welcome, this could very well be feline asthma....it sounds as though yr kitty maybe struggling to breath!!
I would strongly suggest you have yr Vet test him for this, it can be treated.
