My two kitties

Hello~I own,or should I say, am owned by two kitties. One is a Siamese mix, his name is "Butch O'Malley", the other one is a long haired yellow tabby, her name is "Buttercup" So far, they are both pretty healthy.

I do have one question. My cat, Butch, likes to sometimes deficate on the bathroom floor instead of using his pan. I keep it very clean, and the stools on the floor are hard, so, I know he has to strain, it is not like he has to go in an emergency. I keep in the bathroom at night, it is large and room for his bed, food and pan, plus, it is not carpeted, so, when he leaves me these "surprises" it is easy to clean. He does not do this all the time, just once in awhile, and sometimes when I get back home from being out of town. Maybe paying me back? My dad takes great care of him when I am gone, and Butch likes him, we all live together, and Buttercup has NEVER done this. Anyway, just wondering if any of you had any ideas or had a kitty that liked to leave surprises. Other than that, he is a dear, although he does have a temper and is very free with his hissess, LOL.

Thanks for reading and for any replies.

Blessings
Susie

Thanks for the idea about the digestive enzymes, I will check into that today, I know I take them and they help me, :)

I will check into a different brand of food. He is soooo finicky, and almost everything I have bought for him, he tries to cover, the only thing he likes is the "Friskies, chef blend, Seafood". I will, however, try on something more holistic, but, a trial size if possible.

Thanks again for your help.

I'd consider trying something like prozyme. It's a digestive enzyme that helps aid in digestion. This should help things "move right along" so to speak. :)

Are you feeding kitty a human grade quality food? There's a whole new revolution in the pet food industry with the advent of human grade foods. They're much more organic and don't have all the corn and grain filler that cats have a difficult time digesting.

I feed my kitty both wet and dry food and plenty of water. I agree, they need both kinds of food and I give him both.

A while back, I had some tests done on him, they came back fine. However, the vet did say he had a sluggish motality(?) meaning he did not get rid of all his stool. So, the vet had me give him an enema, I did, and he went fine after that, I still have to do this at times, but, not as often. I believe he has had hard stools since a kitten.

Oh yes, he is long haired and I brush him faithfully every day, however, he throws up a lot and it is usually food and some hair. I give him a hair ball med/lax and that helps some, but, he seems to have a weak tummy. He will cry will loud for me and I will go to him and pet him and then he will throw up, after that, he is OK and goes back to his kitty duties.

Thanks for your post, I appreciate it.

I'd start by addressing the issue of the hard stools.

What are you feeding your cat? It's important to give your cat a balanced diet of wet and dry food. Cats have a low thirst drive (I know, it looks like he drinks a lot but cat's never drink as much as you think they do).

Cats get 90% of their hydration from their food. If they fall below a 75% hydration level regularly (which they do with a dry food diet, at most they hit about 60%) then they will develop such problems as hard stools, struvite crystals, scarring along the intestinal track, etc...

I think that it's likely your cat is making a negative association with his litter box when he has difficulty and has to strain, so he goes outside the box. So lets start by addressing the food issue.
