My little Chloe had kidney disease and then stopped eating. I went and bought tuna and she adored it, ate it up, drank the juice and then waited for more. I fed it to her for about a week and then we had a vet visit and when I mentioned it to Chloe's vet, she went off on me...NO NO NO>.......
I felt so bad, thinking that I had discovered the way to keep my Chloe alive and now was being shut down. Then the vet went on to tell me I could give her only the juice from the can, as much as she could or would drink and I should eat the tuna. So Chloe and I shared a can of tuna for a couple of weeks before I had to make a final decision to end her suffering.
So I can see how excited you were Pamela, and yes it would be difficult to say from these posts about your recipes, but they do sound delicious. Some cats are allergic to chicken also, I would think that the best is to serve them small amounts at first and see how they do with that.
Merry Merry Christmas......
Gee I wish you were cooking for me! It all sounds so wonderful , especially if you are a cat. I know canned cat food doesn't always have the best ingredients, especially the fillers they use, BUT cats must have Taurine. It is why cats should never be on just human food, their body needs this additive for good health.
Any cat food will have this ingredient, so it won't hurt to give them food made specifically for cats just for this reason. Other than that sounds like Party Time at the Seaside house--Yum
Hi, I would give them no human tuna at all. I've always saved the good stuff for when I'm desperate to get a cat to eat that's not feeling well. Hey, you gotta have a few tricks up your sleeve!! Other tricks I use are baby food, chicken breast, and chicken broth. Those are the big guns, and most often they work. But, you definitely don't want to whip these out and get the cats too used to it, otherwise they won't work when you really need them to.
Dont feel bad - as the only Brazilian here I do know we are ages away from the Cat raising procedures our North American friends give to their pets...
Im also trying to do my best, always.
Yesterday I was reading about cat/ dogs blood donors - quite interesting. If the service was available here where I live I would consider having my babies donating at least once - they do all the tests for free and you also help another animal. They also get gifts and co...
Oh boy ! Here I am in Costa Rica, doing it all wrong. Pets here eat table scraps. The Foundation serves kibble in the Cattery. I thought it was balanced & had vitamins. ( dumb American). No,I don't want kitty to suffer crystals later. Or mercury posioning from Tuna.
Ok,before I get someone to bring the Menudo Soup mix, this is what is in it
All chicken parts. Livers, gizzards, hearts, & feet. I don't always mess w the feet. The rest, I cut up very small & cook in a little olive oil. Then I add 2 cups of water & put the lid on & let simmer. This isn't easy for me,because I'm a vegetarian. I'm not used to the smells. Is this wrong too? Pamela
I agree with opus88. I never give our cat any people tuna because of
the high mercury. Eve
I will usually give my girls "People Tuna" a couple of tablespoons no more than 3 or 4 times a year.
they say never......
even we 100+ lb humans are limited to once a week or less...so I wouldn't give a kitty more than just a 'taste' now and than...very high in mercury.
