Thank you for replying to my concern. Answering your questions: no other discharge, but the tearing does harden and makes a black crusty (please excuse my gross details), like a dried up bugger from the corner of his eye. No swelling or redness. He did have this before when we adopted him from the humane society. They told us it was a cold in his eye and that it would clear up. It did about a week, then came back. I can say this, I've noticed that sometimes it will be real teary and crusty, then on other days it will be almost normal looking, like the left eye. And I can't really figure why the other eye has been fine and normal the whole time. But I am going to clean his eye with the warm salty water to see if that helps. If all else fails, then to the vet we will go!
Are there any other symptoms, like swelling of the eye or the inner lid or redness? Any discharge other than tearing?
It could be an allergic reaction. Also, if this is a new thing, he might have gotten a small scratch in the area that is causing his eye to be mildly irritated.
Try bathing it gently with warm salty water, once or twice, and that might clear it up.
However, if it doesn't clear up in a reasonable period of time (a week or so), or if the condition changes for the worse, you should really consider getting Snarff to a vet for a check-up. You might need an antihistamine for him. Also, there is a small chance that it's something more serious, like glaucoma. If that is the case (small chance, but still...) you don't want it to go untreated.
Let us know what happens, ok?
