Urinary Blockage - FLUTD
My 3 year old just had another bout of trouble peeing but this time he started having blood in his urine. Ended up spending an entire day at the vet clinic getting IV fluids, catherer and flushing his bladder. That was yesterday ... today he still is having some trouble peeing and is up and down into the litter box. Does anyone have any suggesstion or experience with what else I can do?
He has been on good food his entire life (gonatural and fromm dry mixture right now plus wet food daily), he drinks pretty good (although a bit less lately). We are still waiting on blood, urine tests and urine culture but I'm getting really worried about him. The worse part is that I'm not at home because I'm dog sitting so that has been stressing me and Boomer out completely. If anyone has gone through this and have any tips I would greatly appreciate it!

Tammy I should also mention. Vit C. IF the urine is alkaline(struvite crystals)...than Vit C can be used to help acidify but only in an acute stage...cats do make their own C, however in times of stress levels decline.,,,,500mg
and Feliway did your Vet tell you to try this?
Its a natural hormone spray that helps to calm kitties...my clinic has this on hand but if not most petstores will.

Tammy are the crystals struvite or oxalate? struvite can be addressed with diet while oxolate are alot trickier to deal with.
My Nemo has struvite...therefore his urine is alkaline, IF bacteria aren't present than the cause is usually idiopathic and are usually caused by some stress factor in the home, ie: move/new animal etc. or diet.
Nemo has so far not had a blockage, I have been feeding him a homemade diet for the past 6 months. I also treat him with a maintenance dose of Glucosamine and Chrondroitin Sulfate...at 125mg. but for acute stages that dose can be as high as 500mg for a short time..if you are interested in that I can send you the 'safe' brands on the market for cats.
this has an antinflamatory action and also helps with the bladder spams.
I've read that its not uncommon for a blockage to reacur.
Does the Vet have kitty on any medication?
