Cat Licking a bald spot

Hi There,

Recently my 2 year old, female, neutered, indoor cat has started licking her left hand side , around her abdomen, she has licked a small square that is red and inflamed, she also has licked one of her nipples so much it has scabbed over. She doesn't seem to be uncomfortable and is eating and sleeping as normal. I also have a male cat who has none of these symptoms. Any ideas on what could be the problem with her?

Look forward to hearing for you's!

I agree with Opus. There is most likely a problem here, not to mention how uncomfortable she probably is. It is a good idea to take her to the vet. Please let us know how she is doing. Good Luck!

not very common for a kitty to have a licking habit IMO.....usually when they do something to the extent of irritation its because there is something bothering them!

A friends cat who had along history of Vet visits because he was always biting his back end at the top of his spine...FINALLY after 2 years of treating with flea meds and food changes the new Vet dx him with crystals in his urine...so his bladder was what was bothering him all along.
Could be that? could be food allergies?...if on a chicken diet change to fish or venison to rule out.
If on dry food, change asap to cans!
Please do take kitty to a Vet, have a thorough exam done and a urinalysis too.
good luck, let us know what you find out.

Thanks Spirit.

I think I will take her to the vets. My mum's cat had similar and the vet told her it was a bit like the cat version of OCD, so maybe it could be that. I am wondering if maybe she got somthing on her coat and has just licked it off and is now a habit as you say.

Thanks for taking the time to reply :D

i had a male who did this but not to the extent that he was irritated-we'd
say "look-Timmy's manscaping again!" it seemed to just be a bad habit
that he developed similar to people who bite their nails as he was healthy
as well. are you sure she doesn't have any mites or other irritant since
she keeps going at it like that? rule out any stress, maybe a vet visit may
be in order to make sure there's nothing else wrong since she's getting so
irritated. i hope i helped somewhat besides telling my own story.
