New Cat attack Victim =(

Hello,
I am new to this group. I just not more that 15 minutes ago got severely attacked by my cat. I need advice because she has alway been tempermental. This is the situation. My cats name is ali...short for alley cat and boy did that side come out in her tonight. The past 2 months she has been throwing up at least once a day. I got her some laxatone per the reccomendation of the cat placement lady at petsmart. At first it seemed to work because ali is a long hair cat and I use to work at an animal hospital so I figured it was furballs. Over time she got more and more hesitant of me because she hated taking it. I still gave it to her but even now when I give it to her she still throws up. I took her to the vet for her routine vaccines and to talk to the vet about her bouts with the throwing up. She still had her energy levels and was acting her usual self so the vet said just keep giving it to her and if it presists give her strained meats like turkey or chicken baby food. Ali wouldnt eat it. I thought about maybe her food but it is mad with rice and chicken or lamb and vegetable and it has probiotics to aid in hair ball digestion. So I took her to the vet yesterday again and he did some blood work and said her temperatue is slightly elevated. I got the results today and he said her white blood cell count was a bit elevated signaling either a parasite or inflamitory bowl syndrom but her doubts the bouwls issue because that usually only happens in older cats and he reccomended to deworm her. In the mean time he gave her a shot to prevent future throwing up.

Now I am noticing she is being very vocal and very needy which isnt my usual cat. She wouldnt let me walk up the stairs tonight becaus eshe ran in front of me and laid down on the steps and when I tried to get around her she would bite or scatch me. once I got her out of the way she came and laid down with me in bed. All I was doing was petting her the she nibbled my hand which she will sometimes do. Then she just hauled off and turned into devil kitty and attcks my arm and bit me really hard several times and scratched me. She pinned me in my own bed.  she usually only lets you pet her a few minutes at a time but tonight she seemed to like it.

WHAT THE HECK??? ANYONE HELP???

Illness can cause an altered mental state. It sounds like the case, here. Add on the stress of vet visits, and you've got a cat just rarin' to act out.

I'd like to hear the results of the bloodwork before I start trying to guess, though.

It may be a dramatic action, but if this is being caused by a severe hairball issue you may want to try clipping your cat's fur to give her some temporary relief.

Of course, than your cat will be angry with you for a whole new reason... :-)

Hello,
The vet didnt put her on antibiotics because he wanted to see if there was an infection first with the blood test results. I am suppose to go pick up some de-worming meds tomorrow for Ali. The asisstant told me her temperature was on the high side of normal. He told me today that she is probably acting needy because the anti vomiting medicine he gave her is probably making her feel uncomfotable because it is forcing everything else out the other end instead of letting her throw up. I guess I was just shook up because I couldnt get her off me and was scared she was going to try to attack my face. I just got the blood results today and couldnt get home from work before the vet clinic closed.. That and I had my own doctors appointment to get an MRI done. I will give her a chance trust me I LOVE my cat . Maybe she is feeling crumby and sees me as the reason cus I keep taking her to the place to get stuck with needles and thermometers shoved in places she doesnt like lol. Poor kitty.

Hi, I was just wondering why your vet didn't put your cat on antibiotics when her white blood cells were high and she had a fever????  That's just nuts!  I don't think your cat feels good.  She is probably grouchy and in an evil mood, and that's why I think she attacked you.  Why didn't your vet put her on antibiotics?

Also, you got her from PetsMart?  Do you know her history?  Is she a stray?  If she was a stray, she could have a parasite called Giardia that can cause a lot of vomiting and diarrhea.  That is a specific test.  Might be worth looking into.

Give your cat a chance, and let's assume that she feels crummy and that might be why she's acting a little psycho right now.  I'd also think about finding another vet.  Any vet that sees a fever and elevated white blood cell count that does NOT prescribe antibiotics is a sh*tty vet!  Sorry if ya like the vet-no offense-but that's the way I see it.

Good luck and let me know how everything goes!
