Almost 2 weeks post op!

I am just a couple of days shy of being 2 weeks post op.  Overall I feel pretty good.  Surgery went well, no complications after and I was released from the hospital 3 days post op.  I am taking virtually no pain meds anymore (just weaned off of them this weekend) and I still feel pretty good.  My neck has a pretty sore spot that I just noticed today, but I assume it has hurt all along and I didn't notice because of the pain meds I was on.

However, I am so tired!  If I lay down I will almost assuredly fall asleep.  This extreme tiredness just hit me today.   Kind of like a ton of bricks!  I would have thought I would have been tired and sleepy while on pain meds, but now that I am pretty much off them I can hardly stay awake.

Is this normal?  Should I expect to be this tired?  And for how long?

Thanks!
Hayley

U made meals?...Goodness...it is far too soon for that...lifting is not allowed at this point...it is the weight of the pans etc...

I had more ROM in my neck then I ever had....it was crazy how much u can see when u can move ur neck...lol...

Listen to ur Hubby....this is the time for resting and allowing ur body to heal.

I have been doing my neck exercises and they are getting pretty easy.   I am glad about that!  I expected to have a much stiffer neck post op.  I don't do too much else, my husband won't allow it.  I have fixed a couple of meals and that's about it.  I have watched a lot of the Olympics lol.  Maybe I need to be doing more....I would love to go for a walk but we have snow on the ground, so that is out.

This is the first surgery I have had so maybe it is normal to want to sleep.....alot!  I will check out the journals,  that sounds like a great idea.

Thanks for the advice Selma

Hi...I first want to encourage u to add this to a journal and continue to add to it as u continue to recover.....

Wow that is pretty early to be off all meds....I must admit I was on them longer....

It does take time for the meds/drugs used during surgery to get out of ur system, and the ones u took post op for pain....

Keeping in mind pain can make u tired....and I am sure u still have some.

May I ask what u do during the day? Do u walk, neck exercises....?

It is tempting to do too much too soon since we do have a better sense of how we feel...compared to b4 surgery....but, doing too much too soon can cause set backs...and we will tire out faster for a while...

Listen to ur body....rest, rest and then rest some more, it can take up to 2 yrs for the nerves to heal....so do not be fooled by the appearance of ur incision for complete healing...
