Swelling back of skull

I use to be on an Amateur boxing team. I was in warm ups and heard a loud snap then excruciating pain radiated down my spine. I didn't skip a beat though. I started to notice pain from then on in my neck just about every day or every other day. Then I started noticing knots huge knots in my shoulders and terrible pain in neck n spine. Then for 6 months straight I had headaches in the back of my skull that felt as if someone was taking a baseball bat and beating my skull. I would have naseau and vomitting at times. I have terrible senstivity to light and noise. I get a hoarse voice. I have recently been diagnosed with raynauds,  livedo reticularis, tmj, and fibro. I have pictures that show the swelling and redness at the base of my skull. My neurological problems get worse every month. I am no longer able to hang out with friends. I am barely able to work. I am so close to losing my job because I can barely function. I am only 23 and I am so scared. I feel I'm gonna scream if another tells me I'm depressed. I went from somene that worked three jobs was in college 15 hours to finish with my Associate's in Pre-Law and on an Amateur boxing who felt invincible. I feel the person I was in completely gone and I get worse every month the numbness tingling pain brain function problems. I am in desperate need of help. I am a fighter and that's why i haven't given up but I feel I'm losing my life. Please help me .

We all feel your flustration ecspecially trying to find out what is wrong.  Just keep being persistant and get a complete flow MRI done.  I know all about depression and it's not depression just not knowing what direction to go in.  Keep fighting and you will get the answers you are looking for.  Wishing you good answers.

Hello and good morning,

You don't sound depressed, sound like a man that needs answers.  Do waht Selma said, geet a good MRI and let the doctor know of the snap you heard.  The person you used to be is still there, he jsut got a bump in the road is all.  I know this may sound bad, but don't give up and fight for this.  I fought back from not being able to control any part of my body, two sets of steel rods in my back, loosing alot onf motion in my neck to driving to work every day and working 40 hours a week and playing everyday with a 5 year old grand baby.  So fight for what you want.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

May I ask were u DX'd with Chiari or is this a condition u suspect?

It is possible that a blow to the head can cause or trigger symptoms, it can also cause a syrinx to form, they can be slow or rapid in progression.

have u had a MRI of the brain and cervical spine? Tell ur Dr about the sound and that u box and wonder if it is an injury....that way u may get the testing.
