Did they rule out EDS for u as well....as I know it can affect how the dura patch holds up if it is nething other then ur own tissue.
I was told I would need the release in as soon as 6 months or I may be able to go longer....I feel some of my issues over the last yr and a half are TC related.
Do keep us posted when u have ur surgeries scheduled...we do have a thread to add ur surgical dates in order to have a Prayer thread posted....
Sounds like u have a wonderful plan in place with a very good Dr...Dr B was in the OR for my surgery but was not my surgeon,...he did do the dopplar mapping during mine....
I wish u all the best.
Dr B wants to start with the decompression, remove the tonsils, make more room, and possibly replace the durapatch with my own tissue. I had a synthetic patch the first time so it may need to be cleaned out and replaced depending on what it looks like when they get in there. Then 2 months later the TC release. He feels like these both are necessary to give me the best results.
OIC...I also have TCS but mine is not hidden tho....and I do not have a syrinx....but I do have a DX of EDS, and CCI.
Sounds like the OTC is also the reason u still are having issues, symptoms returned along with new...deff the TC.
Sounds like ur first surgery they just didn't make enuff room....it can happen....
So which surgery will u be having the OCT release or a new decompression?
Well, my symptoms have returned with some additional. Dr B says the first decompression just wasn't complete (although they did do duraplasty and c1 laminectomy). The flow is still being limited. He also Dx me with OTC so I will have to have that done as well. I have a syrinx as well that has extended the length of my spinal cord now. I did have it before the first surgery but not quite as extensive. Dr B feels that it is being caused by the OTC rather than the Chiari since it is the widest in the thoracic and lumbar area.
I had my surgery at TCI and may be needing to go back for surgery for TC release...
I would think with either one u will be in good hands....
May I ask, y u need to go in for another surgery? Is it a redo or for a related condition?
Thanks Selma! I have seen Dr B and really feel confident in him but Dr Oro is in network with my insurance so considering making an appointment with him. So difficult to find the right Dr to best meet all the needs. After the first surgery 4 years ago, I told my husband if I ever had to go down the surgical route again I would go to TCI. To bad I didnt know about TCI before the first go around!
Thanks for your dedication to this site!

We do have a poem by Dr O at the top of the forum under the megga phone....he is one of the country's top Chiari specialists.
