Does anyone have a shunt?

Hi, I had surgery for a Chiari Malformation this year. After many problems after surgery it was discovered I had hydrocephalus also. I have a VP Shunt, I see my surgeon next month. But I’ve been having bad abdominal pain where the shunt is. It’s not a poke, it’s more like a ache stabbing feeling. Sometimes it’s hard to breathe in cause it hurts so bad, and walking makes it worse. Anyone deal with this?

Hi...I do not have a shunt but we have had many of our members here have had one post op due to excess CSF fluid forming....

Some had this issue as a result of the dura patch used and not knowing they have EDS.....sometimes replacing the patch resolves the issue....some times not.

We all respond to this surgery differently, unfortunately for some the shunt is a part of it and they can be difficult to live with, but with a good Dr they should be able to make you more comfortable with it.
