Chiari Malformation reaccurance

Hi, I had Chiari Malformation surgery back in December of 1998. At that time I was having horrible headaches and vertigo to the point that I would be in the ER weekly.

Today is September 12, 2016 and for the past 2 or so months, I have felt the headaches, head pressure in the back of my head, neck pain and vertigo again. I cannot say I have not had any headache for the past 18 years but nothing like before my surgery in 1998. I have experienced little bouts of dizziness and off balance feelings but again, no full blown vertigo attacks or anxiety/panic attacks. I am also wondering if Chiari can redevelop after many years. I recently seen an ENT who order an MRI but according to the report, nothing was wrong. I am not sure if he actually looked at the actual disk of my scans. I had been told years ago I had merenire's disease.  This ENT did not think I had merenire's.

So, I am at a lost what could be causing my symptoms again.  Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Chiari does not redevelop but it is never gone completely since surgery only restores CSF flow.....Chiari is the malformation of the skull...so they only make more room for the fluid to flow....it can change due to scar tissue or the type of decompression that was done.

Do you know what all was done during your surgery? Laminectomy of C1 and or C2...a dura plasty?
AND were ALL related conditions ruled out?
