Sudden onset of vertigo and imbalance

How many of you have been able to walk perfectly fine and then without warning have a sudden onset of vertigo and imbalance?  I have gone out without my canes or walker only to have an incident and then have to make my way home (by bus) without any walking aids.  Do you take your canes (walkers) regardless of whether your having a good few days or weeks or do you even have good weeks?  Since the beginning of February I have had 4 migraines (3 of them in the past week).  They come on suddenly and I can go from walking perfectly fine one minute and stumbling and weaving the next.  I look ridiculous with the canes when I don't need them.  On the other hand I get awful stares and dirty looks because I look like I have been on a bender if I don't have them.

My solution....tie an empty tequila bottle around my neck and really give these people something to wonder about.  This would be particularly entertaining when I am getting into the driver's side of my vehicle.

I have had the same experiences.
I feel embarrased during those times because I look like I am drunk.
It takes me forever to walk up/stumble up my stairs as well.
I keep a can with me in the car.
But honestly, I should take one at all times.
I just get so proud of the times when I don't need it and feel that I can at least look normal. But safety should come first.
Thank you for reminding me.

For the last 11 plus yrs I take my cane everywhere...I find that it depends on my day if  or how my legs will be, let alone my balance or dizziness, that is not even an issue as a cane can not help with drop attacks, or all balance issues...if the cane is on the left and u fall toward the right, it will not be of help.

But I do find it is best to always to have it with me ...JMHO

Thank you for the feedback.  It is comforting to know that I am not the only one.  I feel kind of silly carrying the canes, on the other hand, I look even worse when I have an incident and am doing my best not to have face meet pavement.  I stumble, weave and sometimes have a grimace on my face because walking is taxing.
