That's so upsetting that they kept sending her back home!!! It sounds like they weren't making sure that she was clear of infection, that is very scary. I feel for her family..

this makes me sad....and this makes me angry.  angry that we have to go so long before being properly diagnosed. so long without proper treatment.  so long without this condition being recognized for what it's true potential really is.  a killer.

Yes it was complications from decompression, she fought with a leak and meningitis and lost the battle to that!  So sad!

This is from the family's facebook site:

Ashtyn was diagnosed with Chiari Type 1 Malformation on July 10, 2010. It is a congenital condition in which the lower portion of the brain known as the cerebellar tonsils hang below the skull opening into the spinal canal. This can result in severe headaches, difficulty swallowing, visual disturbances and coordination problems.

Ashtyn had brain surgery on July 19, 2010. She spent four days in the hospital and went home. A week later she was back in the hospital with a bacterial meningitis caused by a staph infection. She also developed a Cerbral Spinal Leak.  She spent 23 days in ICU and then was sent home.

Two days later she was admitted back to the hospital. The bacterial meningitis returned stronger than before. Ashtyn also has pneumonia and has another cerbral spinal leak. She is fighting very hard to win this battle. Please continue to pray for our daughter Ashie....Thanks to everyone for your continued love and support.
