Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum,
I am not aware of those that do not give this surgery a 2nd thought, as everyone on here give it a 3rd, 4th and 5th thought and sometimes more.....
This is a major surgery and u have to consider how ur Chiari is affecting u not only with symptoms but ur overall health.
Do u have a CSF obstruction, what symptoms do u have, and it is progressing.
Then what other related conditions do u have as that is how u determine if surgery is right for u, and having the right Dr is key.
I don't understand the rationale of any Dr who would suggest a symptomatic type 2 Chiari with SB should not be treated. Have you ever considered getting another opinion? I don't see how your condition could do anything but decline without the treatment. Studies do show the likelihood of improvement with the appropriate procedure. Take a look at what some of the experts have to say about it. The conservative approach is usually indicated in border line asymptomatic cases. This is certainly not the case here. Good luck to you :-) Lisa
