9 yr old draws violent pictures

pictures my grandson draws are all violent. A lot of intrest in drawing stick men doing violent things or dying.  I asked him to draw a picture for me of a christmas scene. He wanted to draw a picture instead, of "John Kennedy being assasinated."
He wanted me to take a picture of him holding a (plastic) knife to his 5 yr. old cousins throat.
No doubt he's angry.  He lives with his dad who works 10 hours a day and has custody and him and his 12 year old sister. He doesn't like his mother. My son (his father), yells at him all the time, threatens to "kick his ***" daily and swears when yells at him.  It doesn't take too much thinking to figure out that there is a real problem.
What can i do mentally or emothionally, as a grandmother, to help my grandson?
Telling my son to get help is useless any more.  I don't need advice that tells me to get help. Some people just refuse to get help.  What possitive influence can i be in my grandsons life that will have some counter-effect to the anger thats obviously going on in his 9 year old head.

Possible too much violent movies on TV  some times Dads have action movies on and dont realise the influence although if he yells a lot at the boy thats another reason the child does this.He must have seen something on TV regarding the assasination of JFK You are a good and caring Granmom, can you have your grandson with you more ,you see the problem and would be a good influence, how about sports is he involved in any avtivities from school and with friends, Physical activity is good for children and especially if they have this kind of home life, get a couple of projects going that will interest him. Let us know how it goes,

With dad and the 12 year old sister, I can see where this is coming from.  You will just to need to be calm and caring to try to make a difference for him.  His drawings are probably an outlet for his frustration and maybe helpful to him.
