Clinginess and Crying in a 4year old

This little girl I am concerned about is a bright, verbal, social 4 year old who does well in pre-school for the most part. However, in the last few months she has become very clingy some days and sometimes cries when being dropped off at school. Today was grandparents  day and she refused to participate in the activities and insisted on having her grandmother hold her and cried when her grandmother left. She also did this clingy crying routine when her mom visited day care on parents day. Her teachers tell us that she is generally very hepful and sociable at school, has friends, and enjoys singing and coloring, etc. Is this cling needy crying stage at all normal for a 4 year old?

Is she anxious at school?  To me it sounds like she is just going through some anxiety and needs some extra comfort.   To me unless it persists I would not worry about it too much.  Sounds like when family members visit during the school day,it' shard for her to go back to them not being there.
