sleeping with mom

My daughter is divorced, She and my 7 year old grandson live with me for 5 years now.
My daughter and I have had an ongoing disagreement.  She allows her son to sleep with her every night.  I find this unacceptable and think he should sleep in his own room, which is nothing but a play room now.
He also insists that she be in the room when he goes to sleep. (insecurity)
She says that it is normal and will allow it until he decides he wants to sleep in his own room.
What are your thoughts on this situation?

Just got back from my Grandsons doctor.   While there, my daughter asked the question posted here, His replay was that the cuttoff age for sleeping with the mother or parents is about 6 years old.

The child should be put into his/her own bed.  IF THEY FUSS, a parent should setup a sleeping blanket or a cott next to the childs bed, to assure them that they are safe and when they fall asleep, the parents should go back to their own room.  He stated that, this usually will go on for only a week or two.  By then the child should feel safe sleeping in their own room.  Once in a while you may have to repeat this only if the child is scared or having bad dreams.

So there you are girls.   Time to break that apron string and let you child grow up

let him stay- I did let my children and they were boys- and yes some of it was an emotional need for me - they will eventually outgrow it. Both boys are fine- and in their own beds/

there are varying answers to this ,and it comes up a lot, many parents sleep with their children and it is known in Italy and European countries for there to be a Family bed,so it is an individual choice , however it seems that after a certain age it is better for the child or children to have their own space and  have some independance, thing is if its left later its harder to break till they become Teens then they want their own Privacy.Maybe a good idea would be to work towards an age and then say to them "Time Mom has her own Bed back " and tell the child so stay in their own Room .Single Moms do like the company so somtimes it is their need aswell.I say go with what you are happy with.

For me its probally me I get parinoid at night and feel safer with my kids in the room like I said I am a single mom and at night I like knowing my kids are safe and that I can get to them in a minutes notice. I do give them the option of their bed or mine, but they have slept with me since they were newborns

I often wonder who is insecure, the child or the parent?

I can't say much I am divorced and my kids sleep with me. Everyone says they need to sleep in their own bed but it doesn't bother me. They are 2 and 4
