My 4 year old is unhappy

Hi,
My son has just started his reception (KG), he will be 5 in Nov. and this is the same school where he has been going nursery for the last 1 and a half years. He was very happy and relaxed, it was only for half day. Now that he is going full time he is unhappy all the time. He seems depressed before bed time, wants to sleep early and is crying or hiding tears almost all the time, does not show interest in his usual hobbies.His only complain when I asks him what the matter is, is why do I have to stay in school for so long? Is this just a matter of time or do I have to do something to help him out?

Kind regards,
Hina

Listen to what he is saying he is telling you he is there too long ,can you adjust the hours to him being there for a shorter time, and has the school got enough going on ,is he challenged , it could be plain boring if they dont have enough activities, find out how they stimulate the children at the school,

How many hours of sleep does he get? He should be in bed at 730 and light out, story read, etc by 8 or 830;

Is he taking an afternoon nap at KG? Send anything you are allowed to to help him be comfy- pillow, blankie

If he is resting enough, it will improve.

Sure change is hard- we all dislike change. Have him start to tell you at nite nite time all the things he likes about his life, about school. Keep it upbeat- don't play into the negativity. Always try to stay positive although of course he should be able to tell you he is sad or unhappy- just don't dwell on  it. Keep repeating_ " I know it's hard, It will get better" repeat after me....

Hugs
I know it's hard mom- it will get better
