My boyfrinds 8 year old poops his pants

The 8 year old pops his pants on a regular basis...we have tried everything to make it stop andnothing works! He has gone a month or two with nothing and then right back to doing it agian....that makes us believe that there is nothing medically wrong with him because there is periods with the reward system where he doesnt do it....I need help or suggestions on how to make this stop! I am pulling my hair out trying to figure it out and with no luck...PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

my boy poos his pant in school and sometimes at home ,we went on holiday he didnt do it,we tried everythin the teachers say hes attention seeking,but im not so sure ,its hard work because school rings me to see to him they say they cant because of health and safety so i have to be on call i sometimes have to leave my shopping to go to the school ,he sometimes does it2 or 3 times a day i dont know what to do the doctors put him on fibre gels he just poo;s more ,he says he hasnt done anything everytime he does it but you can smell him .

Sounds like maybe he has encopresis, which is caused from the stretching of the bowel due to chronic constipation.  

Metamucil,  citrucel or added bran fiber helps.
