usually a child that has bonded well with a parent wants to please the parents- after you scolded him- has he done it again?
I believe in discipline- I absolutely insist on obedience and respect but I have big problem with disciplining for accidents, especially toilet training accidents- do a search on here- within the last week someone suggested some wonderful books that usually solve toilet training problems almost miraculously. Don't forget poop accidents happen frequently with stomach bugs....
I personally would give it no attention whatsoever but monitor it silently - wait 6 weeks and see if there is improvement..
and I would NOT compare him to a child that is toilet trained at 18 mos- that is wonderful for you but extremely rare-
He is 3 1/2 years old, and he knows that when he pees or poops on the floor that he is going to get into trouble. I am at my wits end, if I give him something to drink he will pour it out into the floor. He goes to school 3 days a week, only half a day. I have another child who is 1 1/2. He has been potty trained for several months but has just started this in the last week. HELP!
Do not overreact. Prompt him to do the right thing. Run some "potty" videos. We had some scary infantile poopy accidents when we moved. It was usually in a context - daddy - look what I did (to annoy daddy). Just went away on its own. Do not give him too much attention for this - remind him to go #2 in the toilet - he maybe withholding his bowels on purpose. He may be constipated. Who knows. Try to keep records when it happens, what precedes the accident, and what happens after.
how old? what does he say?
