I'm not a health professional but do know about Accutane from a relative. It is like a couple of heart meds I have taken to reduce A-Fib, a heart issue, where side effects aren't just possible, they are expected. If it were me, I would discuss the drug and side effects with not only your doctor, but if possible, contact your closest teaching hospital and reach out to the pharmacy for answers. Be very careful. I hope you keep us informed.
I just received a call from my Dr saying my triglycerides are in the 600's and I have to stop accutane. My face is just now getting clearer so I am a little upset. This is my 4th month of being on the medication. I am not active or healthy with my eating. Should I start taking fish oil, exercise and eat healthy and then resume it once my levels are down?
My dermatologist did mention Accutane raises triglyceride levels, however, I lowered my does and then my levels shot up. She took me off for a few days to see where my levels are now. I'm waiting for results. Thank you!
Hi, the raised triglyceride level are due to accutane therapy. Cheilitis and hypertriglyceridemia are usually dose related. Most adverse reactions reported in clinical trials were reversible when therapy was discontinued; however, some persisted after cessation of therapy. So, you can check with your doctor for dose modifications. Regards.
