Excessive??? Gum and Cheek Swelling

Hi
A brief history of the problem,
A week ago one of my molars became sore and gum swelling began. I ignored it for five days (dumb huh?) until the pain (and minor swelling) became unbearable and I finally went to the Dentist.
Dentist probed and tried to drain the puss to alleviate the pressure but said the puss was really deep
Diagnosed as an abscess I was prescribed Cleosin 300MG 30 capsules and Lortab.
It has been about 24 hours since I started taking the prescriptions and my cheek and neck has swollen to the size of a large baseball.
Is this common and how long will it take for the pain and swelling to subside?
I am really worried that I waited too long to see the Dentist, and that I might have some sort of infection spreading to other parts of my jaw/body
Anything else I can do to help reduce the swelling and constant pain? Lortab not helping
Thanks for any help you can send my way,
smoaky

Dear Fellow Dental Sufferer,
Several natural things you can use that may help you.  Understand that onions are capable of reducing swelling as the have vitamin C as well their potent astringent chemistry.  Chop one half small medium onion into blender with one long stick of celery and a cup of water.  Blend, then sip slowly.  Effects can take place within two to three hours. All depends on condition of body.

That is the first thing to do and the juice will help counter the infection as well.  Other things on the list would be rinsing with warm water and salt, or oregano tea to cut infection.  and more...

I would contact your dentist right away and ask if you should be concerned.  I agree that you don't want to mess around with this type of infection, due to the areas in which it can spread.  Call your dentist, he knows best.
