Yesterday, I had three molars removed, two of them wisdom teeth. I also had to have a sinus flap done after the removal of the top molars. I was given antibiotics and Vicodin to take, which I have done so on schedule. So far I've felt ZERO pain.
The post-op instructions all say to keep an ice pack on for swelling, which I have not used because there is no swelling so far. I've read online that there will be MORE pain and swelling on the second and third days (not the first) after the surgery.
Given that Vicodin is such an addictive drug, I would prefer to not take it, but I've read somewhere that I should take it BEFORE the pain starts, as it will be harder to get rid of the pain than it is to prevent it. Is this true?
I have to work soon and am just wondering what to expect in the next few days (pain, swelling) and if I should be taking the Vicodin at all if I'm literally not feeling any pain? Should I break the Vicodin in half and take half doses? Should I switch to prescription Tylenol instead (I have it leftover from a different oral surgery)?
It's just freaking me out that I literally feel no pain right now even though the anesthetic has long worn off. I would really appreciate if you could share your experience with your wisdom teeth removal.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
