Smelly tooth implant

I had a front tooth implant 8 years ago. For the last year a horrible smell has been coming from it. If  I squeeze the gum above it it is really bad. If there was any part of a tooth underneath I would say it had rotten but there is nothing left under there! What is creating this smell? I brush 3 times a day, floss and use mouthwash. Can someone help?

Hi,
You certainly can get an infection in an implant.  The implant is in bone and bone can get infected.

As a person with four implants across the top front of my mouth, if it were me, I would rush back to the dentist that did the implant.  I would do this ASAP.

An infection in an implant requires treatment sooner rather than later.

GOOD LUCK
My best to you,
Gellia

.I have a cure all for that gum smelling issue. Buy a good waterpik, and mix half warm water and half hydrogen peroxide 3%. On the lowest setting, irrigate the area that smells twice a day. It really works! It flushes out the pocket that is trapping the bacteria and causing the bad smell. Good luck! .
