crown being replaced

Thanks for all your help Scottma.

Prosthodontist did grind down number 18 smaller.  Number 19 is healing slowly, June 3rd he is going to try to put on the final restoration on number 19.   They state from the occlusional trauma my teeth are still sore and periodontis states it is going to take a while to heal.

Elmo started on number 30 tooth to put a new crown on.  While he was doing the crown build up, he stated that I need to get a  bone graft because the measuring of the gum going down is a 10 or 11 and doesn't see like there is enough bone there.

He sent me over to Stoner, periodontist to have him check it out and he stated it looks like it does need a bone graft, but it also may have a fracture.  He stated if there is a fracture, the tooth will have to be removed and prepped for an implant.

Number 30 crown previously had to be grinded down to the metal because it was too high for a really long time from previous dentist. My ear and jaw on the right side was hurting a while back before coming to Elmo, but I could never figure out what was causing it and even went to a family practitioner regarding my ear. The practitioner stated he thought TMJ might be present in 2006, but you could feel something down in my ear.

After Dr. Elmo adjusted the crown 30 January 28, 2009 the pain in my jaw and soreness in the ear went away and what ever was sticking up in my ear went down.

When he did crown build up and provisional crown 30, this is when he wanted me to see the periodontist to see if it needed a bone graft.

After all I have been through with 18 and 19,  I am scared to start having this done right away on 30.   I don't know if I should get a second opionion or not.

Will one of those new x-ray machines be able to tell if a bone graft is needed or if there is a fracture. I was told it is actually hard to see certain things until you get down into the gum.

I don't know what to do.  uh!!!!!     Trying to save these teeth is costing me alot of money, but hopefully they will last the rest of my life if done right.

thanks

Vertical fracture generally is not detected by conventional or digital x-rays in the early stages. However, if vertical fracture of root be present, fractured line will appear on x-rays a couple of months later.
It appears that your dentist referred to a vertical defect or furcation involement of tooth#30. Guided tissue regenration generally yields promising result if it's a 3 wall defect or grade 1 or 2 furcation involvement. If there is vertical fracture, a crack line will be seen during surgical procedure. In that case, root amputation is probably the treatment of choice. Detailed consultation with your periodontist is advised. He or she is supposed to expain to you thoroughly.
