eagle syndrom

Hello

I have been diagnosed with Eagle Syndrome by my ENT specialist although, it did not show up on a CT scan.
I started with spasms of pain on the palette, and then down my throat, and occasionally in my ears.
I have the symptoms of GERD, which have been put down to acid reflux, but am beginning to suspect that the nerve interference is actually causing the stomach symptoms as well.

Is this common?

Are their surgeons who specialize in operating for Eagle Syndrome, and if so, how do you find them?

In the meantime, has anyone tried acupuncture to help the pain?

I'd be grateful for any tips, etc,

Anne

Sounds like we have had similar symptoms for Eagles Syndrome.  I recently had a left tonsillectomy and the ENT fractured the tip of the styloid bone which could be felt on exam.  The bone broke internally when they were exploring the area and was not removed but fractured.  I have had relief from my sx of ear pain, hyper-salivation, headaches, and sharp pain near my eye.  The tonsillectomy was uneventful and my ENT thinks I will be fine from here on out.  So far so good but I wonder about the piece of bone that broke off, will it just deteriorate over time?  I wonder if I'll need additional surgery in the future and also if my ENT made the right decision not to remove the broken piece of the styloid bone.  Any comments would be appreciated.

I am wondering, b/c for about a month I have had the foreign body sensation on the same side where I have a huge tonsil.  It will not go away and is driving me crazy to the point of tears sometimes.  ENT suggested tonsillectomy which I am at my witts end so am deciding to through with it, even though personally thinking that that may not be the answer in making this feeling go away, although I pray it does.  Another symton is if I stick my figer against the inside throat by tonisl I feel something like a bone, which my ENT told me is probably the bone.  I am in NVA.  What we're your intial symtoms and how was it diagnosed.  Did Dr. Gourin treat you?  Any advise you have would be appreciated.  This creates much anxiety for me and the ENT thinks it just my nerves about Tonsillectomy and that I am bringing it on myself....  I have seen her 4 times before deciding to get Tonsils out 1st week of October/2010.  Maybe once they are out, I can at least rule that out if I continue having this something in throat sensation on that side.

I know this thread is old but if you were diagnosed with Eagles, then you should try and find a specialist that had dealt with this in the past.  If you want to travel or live near Baltimore, MD, then I can give you my surgeons name.  Dr.  Christine Gourin at Johns Hopkins.  The surgery was easy compared to the tonsillectomy I had 2 yrs prior and I've had almost a 100% improvement in all of my symptoms.  I have to say I didn't have any spasms so I don't know what that is related to.  Good luck.
