implant abscesses

I was born without my lateral teeth.  So when I was 16 I got 2 implants done.  For the last couple years, they have been great.. I take care of them and get regular dental check ups.   I am a dental assistant, and the orthodontist I work for looked at my implant and noticed a "pimple" looking thing in my gums above one of my implants.  He suggested I go into my periodontist.  I did and ended up having to pay $2,000 this past January to clean the infection.  We this past week I have noticed that the abscess is back.
What needs to be done?  Is this my fault?  Would I need to pay again to have it cleaned out?  Or would it normally be the periodontists responsibility for recurring abscesses?  What can I do in this situation?

If the dentist can assure the effectiveness of $2000 treatment, it's probably worth. It really depends on the source of infection and if the defect is correctable. If the source of infection comes from fixture surface, pbobably nothing is successful.

So do you think I just need a new implant? How often do absesses like this occur?  I don't want to be spending $2000 every 3 months to get it cleaned out... what would you suggest?

Infected(contaminated) implant surface is extremely difficult to decontaminate as natural root surface does.
