Depression is not always caused by something that has happened in your life. It just appears, like you say. No known cause.
If the doctor thinks you have clinical depression then he will probably prescribe medication. I don't think the Zoloft would have made a difference if you only took it for 2 days as anti depressants usually take longer than that to have any effect. You don't have to go through therapy if you don't want to. That is your choice.
Depression is a very difficult illness to cope with, as IU have been depressed for many years. Hope you get help from the doctor.
I do think that some counseling would be good for you in dealing with your depression even if you don't see anything in your present or past life to "get over". Sometimes someone outside family and friends can see something that is not evident to the depressed individual.
No I have not been treated for depression. I never wanted to go in because I know they expect you to go through therapy if you want anti-depressants but there is nothing to talk about when it comes to me because it's not like I need to be helped through a certain circumstance, I'm just depressed.
A couple years ago my sister was on anti-depressants and I took 2 of her zoloft pills, 1 each day, for 2 days in a row without her knowing and they actually really helped. Like I just wouldn't look at things in a negative way like I do normally.
Hey! Its possible. Ask your Dr to test your thyroid ask to get tested for tsh( which isn't important as the other test) and your free t3 and free t4. And post your labs in the thyroid community its great members that'll help youreally interpet the results even if they're considered normal. Because sometimes they aren't normal for you.

Have you been treated for depression at all since you started feeling this way? Has your doctor run blood work before? Usually, the more common kinds of problems (like thyroid abnormalities) are ruled out first. That's not to say that you don't still need to be checked medically, I'm just curious as to what kinds of assessments you've had done up until now.
Just talk to your doctor, tell him how you're feeling, and specifically ask that lab work be ordered, including thyroid tests. After you get those results back, you'll have a clearer picture of what may be going on, if anything.
Let us know the outcome, okay? Hang in there!
Bring your symptoms up with your doctor at your next visit. There are blood tests that can be done to see if your thyroid is a problem. If not, then your doctor will have other avenues to go down in tracking the cause of your problems.
