Need help

I have sever depression, anxiety, and fibro.  I am currently on Savella, which seems to have worked somewhat well for fibro and depression.  Unfortunately, what I cant control is the anxiety.  I cant work.  The PA Ive been seeing for the last 18 years wont even give me ten xanax a month, so I can rarely go out.  I dont know if increasing the Savella will help calm the anxiety or not?  I have to be able to find employment to care for my son, I dont think I can just get disability or Social Security for being a nut lol Any ideas??

Actually mental disabilities do qualify for social security as a disability. They do not only have to be physical problems only. I would also find another PA if possible to treat your anxiety.  Do you get panic attacks? What symptoms do you have and what causes your anxiety if you know? I personally take meds for Fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety. I get panic attacks. And yes I take Xanax.  It is addictive that may be the reason your PA is reluctant to prescribe it. Unfortunately is it abused by many, mostly people who actually don't need it. But if you do, it has worked wonders, I have been taking it for about 9 years.  I probably had one panic attack since I started this med. Behavioral therapy works well along side of medications to help one understand anxiety, and how to cope with.  I have learned how to keep my panic attacks away.  I'm sure you can too.  Don't give up, You don't have to let it run your life.  Have your physician recommend someone if possible.  I wish you the best

I'll keep this in mind if my Cymbalta starts to fail, lol......The only side effect I ever experienced with Cymbalta is abnormal dreams when my dose was at 60mg.  These dreams were like a cross between Stephen King, Wes Craven, and Tim Burton.  At 30mg I'm good.  Thanks again for the info. I hope you can find relief.  Don't give up..

http://www.savella.com/.  Yes it really does, I had tried ten different meds before this and this is the only thing I have found that actually reduced the pain and side effects.

I had never heard of it until you mentioned it. From what I read, its a SSNRI category anti depressant which is in the same category as Cymbalta.  I imagine they work the same way. Not sure which is cheaper. lol...I get mine through the Lily Co mfg at no cost through their patient prescription program. Its been a blessing to my depression and fibromyalgia.  Unfortunately it does not treat anxiety.  I did see the rheumatologist once when I still had insurance to confirm the diagnosis, but really found it a waste of my 150 mile trip. My local doctor treated it no different then they would of.  Unfortunately many doctors still don't acknowledge fibromyalgia as a physical condition and this makes it somewhat difficult to get treated unless you have a doctor who believes in it. I am fortunate mine is young and very much into the latest problems.  Pain management clinics can also provide help if you have one near you.  Does the Savella work for you?

It sounds like you suffer from social phobia.  It can leave you feeling unable to get out into the public without fear of going into a panic attack. This can leave you living like a hermit.  It is treatable from what I know.  You need to find someone that handles mental health issues. Some regular physician can help, but you require medication and therapeutic help.  If there is money issues or insurance issues see where the closest community mental health clinic is.  Most counties have some sort of services or services nearby.  These people are licensed to treat with medication as well as behavioral therapy. They can work with you if your insurance does not cover their services. Usually they base your fees on what your income is.  I think this would be your best option.  The heightened stress your having is aggravating your pain.  I live in a small town and I currently have no insurance and the closest Rheumatologicst  is 150 miles.  So for now I am treated my by local physician with Cymbalta, and Xanax.

Yes I get severe panic attacks, to the point that I rarely leave the house unless its all thought out and planed precisely and Im going to places Ive been to a thousand times before.
My PA is not helpful, she will not diagnose my cfs or fibro but treats it with Savella...she wants me to go to a rheumatologist but the only one in my city does not accept my insurance.  So I cant get anything for anxiety or pain.... I am at my wits end

A person can be eligible for SSDI for a variety of psychiatric disabilities but anxiety disorder is more difficult than other psychiatric disabilities (by itself) to be accepted for but as you have several disabilities if your doctors could confirm with appropriate documentation that would be unable to work then you could apply and see what happens and if denied appeal. Go to the Social Security website ssa.gov and look under "questions and answers". They also have full listings for their criteria for all disabilities. You could discuss this with your doctor and if you needed further assistance an appropriate advocate or lawyer depending.
