I'm not exactly sure is Risperdal requires a slow taper off or not.
It's nota an antidepressant, but rather it is claasified as an anti-Psychotic medication. It pofile and action are much different than antidepressant drugs.
Just to be on the safe side I think a slow taper is always a good policy when discontinuing any psychotropic medication.
I do hope that you have first gotten the ok by your doctor before discontinuation..
I am asuming your Doctor has advised this.
Can you get a smaller pill and split it using a pill cutter?
Also if you feel bad go back up to the previous dosage for four weeks and try again.
I got off Zyprexa, taking a long time to come down from the lowest dose 2.5, I cut it + reduced one day out of 10 then 2 days out of ten. Not every second day. It took me a few months. Down to just taking a quarter of that pill then no pill one day out of 10, then no pill 2 days out of 10. etc..
Hope this helps!
Have you spoken with your doctor? If you have questions, I would call your doctor. That's what they're there for. Also, you can ask this question on Medhelp's Doctor Forum. There is a section for mental health. Perhaps they can better answer your question. This anxiety forum is just laypeople, so we are not qualified to answer your questions. Good luck. Keep us posted.
Blessings,
