Needing motivation to keep going

I am 18 and i have horrible grades in school. i have gone to the doctors for medication gotten it and also been offered therapy. i stubborn refuse these things. i am determined to tackle my depression on my own for multiple reasons. one i don't believe just because you have depression or other issues similar to it that there is really a problem. with the direction and rate today's society is going at who knows that is really right or wrong but there is one major problem i struggle with and its my ability to gain motivation or find a real reason to do things. here and there i will gain glimpses of motivation or reason and begin to strive for what i want and do my best but quickly after it tends to wear off and im back in a frustrated haze where i have no clue what to do and almost want to punch my self and ask what the hell with wrong with me. personally i have sat on many sites and looked for many answers and always end up coming to conclusions such as crazy mental problems or health problems. i would like to stop hearing about this because for one no matter what i have im always going to need to fight it and will try on my own first. i need help finding my motivation and holding onto them so i don't lose them. if anyone has ideas or tips or even something that they have done them self please share with me.

When you first mentioned that you had bad grades, it's understandable that you know that a good education will get you far. It's good that you are concerned with class, so instead of looking for "possible mental problems", try looking for "studying tips" or "ways to sleep better at night". it may seem off topic, but whatever goes into your body, such as food and water, will show through your personality and joy in life. As for motivation, try looking at artwork online or going to the library. The best things in life are free.

And if people are telling you that you are 'sick', I beg you to please consider the rational side - that sometimes these web sites and people just want your time and money, not to help. But I can never guarantee that because I don't fully know your family or life situation. If seeing people doesn't help, make a journal and do NOT slack off on it because it could hold useful information when the time comes for you to realize that you may have needed one. Take baby steps in life, there is no need to grow up fast. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a  time.

Honestly, you want to get rid of your depression yourself?

(CONSULT A DOCTOR AND GO WITH THE PROFESSIONAL FIRST BEFORE MY ADVICE)

Find something you can do to help people. No joke, I am letting you know what has saved me from my own terrible depression time after time after time. Your depression will go down dramatically if you help people to be happy themselves.

If you had the flu 24/7 and had to stay in bed most of the day would you decide to beat it on your own or take your doctors advice?
Speak with a psychiatrist and find what the real cause of your problems are and then follow the docs guidance for treating them.
How long do you want to let your problem interfere with your life.  We do not bring these problems on ourselves and cannot wish ourselves out of them.  Or at least I've never been able to. It's just like any other physical problem that needs professional treatment.
