My grandma Age 60 in depression or psychological trauma

My Gandma (Age 60 year) was perfectly fine healthwise.  A month back there was a server health issues with one of the person my grandma loved most and this incident made whole family suffer for two weeks including my grandma. Now we are seeing a sudden change in my grandma’s behavior. She is not active as earlier, she do not speek much , she just stand or sit in some place idle. She don’t know some time what is happening with her. Sometimes she done even recognize the things or some persons. We are really scared of her this sudden behavior. Is this is some sort of depression or psychological trauma ? or some other shock issues ? we consulted a nearby general physician he said she is week and aged. Can some one please advise what we should do now ? should we check her with some neurologist ? can this state in this age be treated with medications ?

Sixty ain't that old, folks.  I don't know the state of her health, but you say she was fine, and 60 just isn't weak and aged anymore, if it ever was, absent other health problems.  So we have two possibilities:  she's very sad over what's happening to her loved one and this is how she handles grief.  Have you asked her about it?  But it could also be a health problem, such as a stroke.  Only a doctor can tell you this by running tests.  I'd suggest she get a complete physical from a doctor who doesn't think people age 60 are "weak and aged."  I speak as someone who is 63 and most of the people I know are getting old with me but we aren't "weak and aged" yet.  But when you get old you do lose friends and lovers and it can add up and make you very sad and lonely.  And it can be something physiological.  Talk to her -- she knows best what's going on.
