Hi
Folliculitis usually affects persons who stay in the pool for long periods especially in public pools or in hot baths that haven't been cleaned properly. I would suggest that if a discharge from the rash is present , then you may need to have the discharge cultured so that the organism causing this may be ascertained. Folliculitis may be transmitted through direct skin to skin contact and this may also spread to other parts of the body. Applying a topical antibiotic on the area will be able to help after a specimen for the culture has been taken.
Just wondering if you think it might be an ingrown hair. My mother had same thing happen to her and no lie she looked like she was pregnant(it was on her stomach). After only few days it was so big!! She ended up having to have it drained and it was really gross and so infected with no lie tons of puss and that's what they said it was. How a hair would have done that on the belly I don't know but I can see where you may shave.
Thank you for responding to my post,
Okay so I had been taking baths in my tub, it's really clean but of course it cant always be that clean, I would take them with scorching hot water... I assume that it opened my pores and let some infection in... course that I cant really be certain if it happened because of that.
I do not have any fevers, nor redness in that area... it just looks like a patch of pimples on my thigh and some along the knee, shin area.
Hi
You have mentioned of taking hot baths. Is this in a public bath ?
Folliculitis may be a likely differential here especially when a history of prolonged baths in public bathing places such as swimming pools is present. A culture of the discharge from the bumps or rash may be necessary to ascertain the diagnosis. You may need oral antibiotics for this if topical medications like mupirocin may not elicit a response.
Is there any associated fever? Any redness in the area?
