White patches on face and neck

Hi,
My son is 8yrs old. He has some white patches on his face. He is going to summer camp where he goes for swimming and also he is in sun for a sometime.

We tried cortizone + vaseline. but doesn't work. I think may be its allergy.

Please let me know

Regards

Sir,

I have recently developed a small white patch on left side of my chin. the difference in color is not too much but I can notice it. I am 24 years old.
Is this due to some deficiency. Please suggest if there's any diet or food or cream to follow.

Many Thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
These white patches are of pityriasis alba. This is characterized by hypopigmented, round to oval, scaling patches on the face, upper arms, neck, or shoulders.

No treatment is required and the patches in time will settle in due course of time. The redness, scale and itch if present may be managed with simple emollients and sometimes hydrocortisone, a weak steroid, is also used.Severe cases may require PUVA therapy.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your son is doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
